The Republican Party vies for government intervention on the lives of homosexuals and raped women. They also support a failed military effort which has cost taxpayers $908 trillion (http://costofwar.com) and ~5000 soldiers.

Libertarians do not.

The two words are not "virtually synon[y]mous." While there is some overlap between libertarians and republicans, the two groups are by and large not the same. To argue that George W. Bush, John McCain, Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson, Charlie Christ, Tim Pawlenty, or most of the other "leaders" of the Republican party are in any libertarian is just plain wrong.

And I wasnt referenicng the fact that Wayne Allyn Root used to be a Republican, I was only referencing his policies which appear to be conservative, rather than libertarian. Yes, many prominent libertarians used to be Republicans, but they are now Libertarians because their policies and views changed. In the case of Wayne Allyn Root, it looks like his party's views changed, but that he stayed the same and now has no party that matches his home. He might be a republican that leans libertarian, but I'd rather see him in the Republican party than in the Libertarian party for now.

To say Wayne Root is "not a libertarian," but rather a "Republican," is patently absurd given the fact that the two words are virtually synonmous.

Facts:

The Founder of the Libertarian Party was at the time, the Colorado State Chairman of the Young Republicans.

Fully 8 out of 9 of all past Libertarian Party Presidential candidates were/are Republicans.

The Party's first Presidential candidate from 1972, Dr. John Hospers, Chaired "Libertarians for Bush," in 2004.

Every single one of the 11 Libertarian Party members who ever served as a State Representative (Alaska, Vermont, Michigan, and New Hampshire), once in office caucused as Republicans.

Amazing the ignorance some people have of Libertarian Party history.
