Bill To Audit The Federal Reserve Gaining Steam

July 29, 2009 By: Phred Category: Uncategorized

I have written previously about a bill in Congress to audit the Federal Reserve.

There are currently 280 sponsors and cosponsors of this bill in the House of Representatives.  This is enough to pass the bill with a substantial majority and only 11 supporters short of a veto-proof majority!

Remember, this bill is about transparency.  It is about letting the American people know where trillions of their dollars went.  The Federal Reserve is a private corporation which controls our nation’s money supply and interest rates.  It has been around since 1913 and has never been audited.

On top of that, the Federal Reserve’s Chairman, Ben Bernanke, doesnt seem to know whats going on in his own shop.  When asked by Democratic Congressman Alan Grayson which foreign banks received over $500,000,000,000 [$500 billion], Bernanke DID NOT KNOW THE ANSWER.  Watch:

We have just started to step up efforts in the Senate.  There are currently 21 sponsors and cosponsors of this bill in the Senate.  On top on this, Senator (and former hall of fame pitcher) Jim Bunning has come out in support of this bill, but has not sponsored it as of today.

I have been leading a campaign to bombard two Senators each day (one Democrat and one Republican) with phone calls in support of this measure.  Hundreds of phone calls are being made daily.  This really is a grassroots effort.  Those who follow me on Facebook are probably well aware of this campaign.  Many of you have stepped up and adopted the status messages I have posted regarding this effort.

I urge those of you who havent been involved yet to get involved.  This is grassroots Democracy at its finest.  For those of you on Facebook, I urge you to spred the word about this effort to your friends.

I recommend adopting the following Facebook status messages for the rest of the week:

Status for today (7/29):

S. 604 (The Audit the FED Bill) Now has the support of 21 Senators! Victory is within reach. Lets target 1 Democrat and 1 Republican today and bombard them with calls to get their support. Democrat: Al Franken (MN) (202) 224-5641. Republican: Jeff Sessions (AL) (202) 224-4124. It literally takes less than 2 minutes to call! PLEASE REPOST!!!

Status for tomorrow (7/30):

S. 604 (The Audit the FED Bill) Now has the support of 21 Senators! Victory is within reach. Lets target 1 Democrat and 1 Republican today and bombard them with calls to get their support. Democrat: Mark Udall (CO) (202) 224-5941. Republican: Olympia Snowe (ME) (202) 224-5344. It literally takes less than 2 minutes to call! PLEASE REPOST!!!

Status for Friday (7/31):

S. 604 (The Audit the FED Bill) Now has the support of 21 Senators! Victory is within reach. Lets target 1 Democrat and 1 Republican today and bombard them with calls to get their support. Democrat: Joe Lieberman (CT) (202) 224-4041. Republican: Mitch McConnell (KY) (202) 224-2541. It literally takes less than 2 minutes to call! PLEASE REPOST!!!

And please be sure to make the phone calls.  You can call two Senators and express your feelings on this bill in less than two minutes.  Let them know that this bill is about transparency and that the American people have a right to know where their money is going.  Remind them that the Federal Reserve has been around since 1913 and has never been auditedHere a list of contact information for all US Senators.

H.R. 1207 Update

May 19, 2009 By: Phred Category: Uncategorized

H.R. 1207 is the Audit the Fed bill that I wrote about earlier.  I wanted to give a quick update on the status of the bill.  This bill now has 165 cosponsors in the House of Representatives, plus the support of its author, Congressman Ron Paul.

If the bill gets 218 cosponsors, it will undoubtedly pass the House, as 218 is over half of the total House members.  Support for this bill is rising.  Please call or email your Congressman to tell them to support this bill.

Senator Bernie Sanders, a self described socialist from Vermont is the sponsor of the Senate version of this bill.  This bill has such a  diverse group of supporters, from the ardently free market capitalist Ron Paul, to the socialist Bernie Sanders.  This bill is a common sense effort at transparency for our central bank.  Our national bank, which has been given the power to print money and set interst rate and banking policies has never been audited in over 95 years of existance.  I see no reason whatsoever to oppose this bill.

Just Finished, Now Reading

May 12, 2009 By: Phred Category: Uncategorized

I just finished reading Thomas Paine’s Common Sense.

I recommend this.  Like I said previously, its cheap (you can get a used copy for under $1.50 now) and definitely worth reading.  It is an interesting window into the mind of a great Revolutionary thinker.

I have also finished reading Ron Paul’s The Revolution:  A Manifesto

This was Ron Paul’s campaign book for last year’s election.  Its short–only 198 pages, but its really good.  Its filled with a bunch of great quotes, facts, and pieces of information that most people dont know.  I highly recommend this book.

I am now reading Ludwig von Mises’ Liberalism.  Ludwig von Mises is one of the greatest free market thinkers of all time.  He was the teacher of Nobel Prize winning economist F.A. Hayek and was a prolific writer.  Ive been excited about reading this book for quite a while.

I am also reading Karl Marx’s Wage Labour and Capital…  “Know thy enemy.”

Just Finished, Now Reading

May 03, 2009 By: Phred Category: Uncategorized

I was able to finish both of my Thomas Sowell books yesterday.  That man is a great thinker.

Black Rednecks and White Liberals was a very interesting sociological and historical study of different cultures and peoples throughout the globe.  It is filled with virtually unknown (or un-talked about) facts and historical anecdotes.  If you are intersted in history or culture, I recommend this book.

I recommended Basic Economics:  A Citizen’s Guide To The Economy before even finishing it.  This book is a must read for anyone who is even slightly interested in economics, business, or politics.  It explains complex things like markets, wages, and trade in a very simple manner–easy enough for a child to understand.  Dr. Sowell contrasts properties of freer economies with those of more tightly controlled economies like the former Soviet Union. Most importantly, he explains simply and clearly the importance of pricing and how pricing serves as a conveyor of information. Read this book yourself, or give it to that friend you have who doesnt understand simple economics.

I have started reading two new books.

The first is Thomas Paine’s Common Sense. This book was released as a pamphlet in 1776 and immediately became very popular. This book was tremendously important. I read this book about a year ago, but I felt the need to reread it. Im sure that everybody has heard of this book, but I doubt most of yall have read it. You can get a used copy for less than $4. Well worth it.

The second book is Dr. Ron Paul’s Revolution: A Manifesto. Ive heard good things about this one.

If you decide to buy any of the books above, please buy them through my links. If there are any other books that you are thinking about buying, I have placed an Amazon search bar on the top right side of the page. Thanks!

Audit The Federal Reserve

May 01, 2009 By: Phred Category: Uncategorized

Congressman Ron Paul has proposed an interesting bill in the House of Representatives.  No, it isnt another “crazy” proposal from the Congressman, but rather a very sensible one.

If passed, this bill would require that an audit of the Federal Reserve take place before December of 2010.

The Federal Reserve was established in 1913 and has never been subjected to a government or independent audit.   The Federal Reserve controls the Nation’s money supply and has the power to print new money as it sees fit.  It also controls interest rates, and therefore has a great deal of influence (to say the least) on our economy.

It is also a private corporation, owned by its members–the same large banks who are being blamed for the current financial crisis.

Requiring an audit of this institution is just plain common sense.

I do not see how any sensible, reasonable person could oppose this on any grounds.

This bill now has 112 cosponsors in the House.  The number is growing every day.  This bill is also getting bipartisan support.  One of the cosponsors is California Representative Lynn Woolsey.  She is vice-chairman of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and was the first House of Representatives member to call for withdrawal from Iraq.  Georgia Representative Tom Price, a staunch conservative is also a cosponsor.  This bill also has the support of plenty of other prominent Democrats and Republicans.

I would not be surprised if President Obama threw his support behind this bill.  The President claims to be a very big proponent of transparency.  Supporting this bill would be a great way to prove it.

From Congressman Paul: “Since its inception, the Federal Reserve has operated without sufficient transparency or accountability to the American people. In fact, current law specifically excludes the Fed from audit or real congressional oversight. No government agency has such an utter lack of sunshine.

The Federal Reserve has created and dispersed trillions of dollars in response to our current financial crisis. Of course, I am among the most outspoken critics of the bailouts, but Americans across the nation, regardless of their opinion of the TARP program, want to know where that money has gone and exactly how much has been spent.”

There is a similar bill now being proposed in the Senate.

Please click here to email and/or call your Senator, Representative, President, and/or Vice President.

With your help, an audit of the Federal Reserve will soon take place.
